Privacy

CoffeeChat is in private beta. The short version: we store the profile you fill in, the cafés you pick, and the messages you send. We do not store your location, we do not sell anything to anyone, and you can ask us to delete all of it at any time.

If you only join the waitlist

We store your email address, and the date you joined. That is all. We use it once to confirm you are on the list, and again when we have an invite for you. Nothing else is sent to that address, and it is not shared with anyone.

If you create an account

In addition to the above, we store:

• Your account — email address, whether it is verified, and a hashed password. We never see your password in readable form.
• Your profile — display name, and whatever else you choose to add: job title, industry, interests, a short bio, the prompts you answer, and the days and times you are usually free.
• Your favourite cafés — the one to three places you anchor to. These are what put you on other members’ maps.
• Your chats — coffee invitations you send and receive, the messages in them, and which meetups were confirmed in person.

We do not store your location

This is the part worth reading twice. CoffeeChat does not track where you are. Members appear on the map at the cafés they chose, not at their actual position.

Your browser may ask permission to use your location. If you allow it, the coordinates are used in that browser to centre the map on you, and remembered in that browser so the map opens in the right place next time. They are never sent to us and never written to our database.

You are hidden until you say otherwise

Appearing on other members’ maps is off by default. Until you turn it on in your profile, nobody can find you, and you can turn it back off at any time.

Who else handles your data

We keep the list of companies involved as short as we can. Each of these does one job:

• Neon — hosts the database everything above is stored in.
• Vercel — runs and serves the site.
• Resend — delivers our email: waitlist confirmations, invites, and the link that verifies your address.
• Apple — provides the map itself. Loading map tiles tells Apple which part of the map you are looking at, under Apple’s own privacy policy.
• OpenStreetMap — where the café listings come from. This is a one-way lookup: we fetch cafés for an area and cache them. Nothing about you is sent.
• Anthropic — powers Brewie, the in-app assistant. When you write to Brewie, your message and the context she needs to answer are sent to Anthropic to generate a reply. She only ever sees what you could already see yourself.

We do not use advertising networks, we do not run third-party analytics or tracking pixels, and we do not sell or rent your data to anybody.

Cookies

We set three, none of them for advertising: one to keep you signed in, one to remember whether you chose the light or dark theme, and one that marks a visitor as browsing the public demo. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Deleting your data

Email privacy@coffeechatusa.com from the address on your account and say you want it deleted. We will remove your account, profile, cafés, invitations and messages, and confirm when it is done. Coming off the waitlist works the same way, and every waitlist email carries a one-click unsubscribe link that deletes your details outright. The only mail you cannot opt out of is what an account cannot work without — confirming your address when you register. There is no other kind.

If a chat involved another member, their copy of that conversation may remain in their own account. We cannot delete someone else’s messages on your behalf.

Where your data is held

On servers in the United States. If you are in the UK or EU, joining means your information is transferred there. You are entitled to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it erased — use the address above and we will answer.

Children

CoffeeChat is for working professionals and is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we start storing something new or add a company to the list above, we will update this page and change the date at the top. While the beta is small enough, material changes go out by email too.
